Definitions and Common Terms in the Hobby

Hi fellow Aquarists,

"Common terminologies and Bettafanism Guides used by betta keepers in Singapore. This page consolidates them to help out new comers. It is too much of a hassle to provide the meanings as well though, so do google them."

TERMS : MEANING

LFS: local fish shop

KTP: Ketapang or Indian almond leaves

HM: Halfmoon

HMPK: Halfmoon Plakat

CT: Crowntail

CTPK: Crowntail Plakat

VT: Veiltail

SD: Super Delta

Tubi: Tubifex worms

BBS: Baby Brime Shrimps, Hatching: click here for guide.

MB or MBlue: Methylene Blue

SBP: Swim Bladder Problem

Culls: Inferior and unwanted bettas (subjected to opinion)

Masking: Coloured scales growing on the head of the betta

Monster: Betta with the entire head masked with thick, white irids.

Piebald: Entire head without irids, while the body is covered with irids.

Monkey Face: Partial form of Piebald, with only "baldness" around the eyes, hence, like a monkey's face.

Dragon: Thick, white, chalky looking scales with usually single coloured fins. Rays of fins continue to have thick white irids.
