A very delightful lunar new year to all! It is a pity that work load keeps me from mass spawning like before but the passion within me will always be there; like a tiger ready to pounce but don't know when.

Microworms

Hello all,

Had been receiving SMSes asking about Microworms so perhaps I will update here. I do not sell Microworms anymore as they are kind of low in nutrition for my bettas and foul water quickly. Their culture spoils easily to fungus too. Hence, Baby Brime Shrimps are a much better alternative with the big harvest, high nutrition and clean feeding.

However, if you insist, here's a general guide on how I culture my Microworms in the past. Thought most of my buyers but don't think I posted a guide on this.

1. To start off, you need another Microworm culture. Or just a tiny drop of Microworms.

2. Get a plastic clear container, cut a hole on the lid and stuff cotton wool or filter cotton in it. This is to allow air into the culture and prevent flies from entering.

3. Add plain oats into the container. Yes, the one that we eat and commonly sold in supermarkets.

4. Next, wet the culture by adding water, do not allow it to be "flooded", just very moist.

5. Add the tiny bit of Microworm starter you have and seal the container with a lid. Keep in room temperature and soon you can watch your culture grow.

6. Harvest those worms that are crawling on the side of the container and you are done. Continue the culture forever by adding oats for a few times and then finally repeating step 1.

Something other than bettas.

Hello dear pet keepers,

Came upon this Red Eared Slider/Terrapin near my block last week. It was crawling along the roads and was bone dry. Hence, I believe it might be abandoned. Took it home as there wasn't any drains or rivers nearby. However, I do not have the capabilities to keep it.

I am putting it up for adoption. Not sure about the gender, but this fellow is generally shy. So anyone with a nice pond, please do consider. Please note it is quite a large terrapin, as you can see in comparison to my palm. His shell suffered some injuries but it should heal easily under proper care. Please contact me if interested. Next up, I've uploaded some new pictures in the stocklist. Nothing new, but just a highlight that I do still have plenty of beautiful White Platinium HMPK females for sale. 8 rayed babes and completely clean. Just housed all of them in a community tank so feel free to drop-by on the weekends for a scoop! Other stocks such as Steel Blue HMPK Males going at $10 each only too!

Sorry for the quietness

Hello my friends,

I would like to apologise for the downing of gear in Bettafanism, as you guys have known by now, it is due to my full time work. I will continue to keep and sell some bettas at times, but stocks will no longer come in a very regular basis.

However, do feel free to continue sharing around my blog as I believe the guides available have created a strong platform for betta hobbyists to refer and start up.
Thanks for the support and I will update when I start on a new spawn when I have the time.

Upcoming Competition in Malaysia

Here's an update on the betta scene, an upcoming International Betta Show.

This is held by the official globally recognised betta club: International Betta Congress. Hope the Malaysian readers of my blog can make it there to take a look or support the event, the entrance is pretty cheap.

I will be joining the competition with my new white warrior, as well as my favourite Lavender BF. Hope they will bring me something as this will be a very competitive event.

And by the way, I should be releasing my White Platinium HMPKs in about 2 weeks' time, as many are asking. Not too many with superb finnage, as I only WC every 1 to 1.5 weeks due to work.

Could not capture his full flaring form as he is too active.

Shifting down the gears...

Dear brothers and sisters,

It will be sad to announce that due to circumstances, Bettafanism will be slowing down on the breeding of bettas. I had decided to focus purely on the breeding of my White Platinium HMPK line, as I will be extremely busy here on to handle mass spawnings.

Stocks taken from suppliers locally and overseas will still resume, but will probably be at a slower paced rate. So feel free to check back to Bettafanism every now and then, weekly will be good!

Thank you everybody for all the kind support all these years, and do continue to support! From here on, I hope to continue producing great looking White Platinium HMPKs for future competitions.

So in other words, I will be selling my entire collection of Black Dragon HMPKs. Including the participant for the last Yun Feng competition, as well as my breeding stocks. Which I promise are good stuffs.

However, do note that I will not be free on Saturday(tomorrow) unless it is about 10-11pm. Viewing/collection of fishes are best to be done on Sunday. X'treme Events 2011

Greetings readers,

Happy belated mooncake festival to all, hope I am not too late in wishing everyone here wellness.

This blog post will be about the extreme events that have taken place over the past weekend. Organised by Team X'treme, of course, haha.

Particularly sunday, whereby the Betta Judging Seminar took off, in Serangoon CC. Despite rearing bettas for about 10 years now, this is a classic case that new knowledge will never fail to greet you. Learnt tremendously lot from Mr Hermanus (Head of IBC Betta Judges, Zone 6) who came all the way from Indonesia to conduct this seminar.

At the end of the day, everyone's delighted to receive their certificate of attendence. Step one is accomplished and I do look forward to continual seminars.

Next up, like the rest, we headed towards YunFeng for the prize presentation of Xtreme Betta Competition 2011. Thankfully, out of 5 entries, my Lavender Butterfly HMPK made it to 2nd place in the Bi-colour category. Still upset with my White Platinium HMPK (2nd place in Kelson Comp a few months back) for losing his form after a spawning attempt that turned out to be a sparring match with the female.

But it's okay! At least I did not end up empty-handed, what a relief!

Here's some shots of the prize presentation, as well as the awesome looking trophies!

Lastly, I am happy to show my growth of my collection of trophies. Built a new rack on the wall to hold lighter ones. Currently holding the 3 trophies from Kelson's Competition.

Post Arofanatics Carnival

Good day patrons,

Firstly, I'm so sorry I did not post up details of a recent event - The Arofanatics Fish Carnival, hosted by the forum, Arofanatics. This should be the first ever fish carnival held in Singapore. I will take this opportunity to promote the main forum I started out with, and still active in - Arofanatics.

For those who missed it, please refer to marshy73's youtube channel, a senior moderator of Arofanatics. He captured quite a number of videos of the event - http://www.youtube.com/user/marshy73. It is a pity there isn't any videos of the betta section.

Looking at the videos and the scale of the carnival, you should have a rough picture of Arofanatics. Yes, it is one of, if not, the biggest fish forum in Singapore. The forum covers almost every single type of aquarium fish, and of course, I roam about the sub-forum for Bettas.

Being an event to celebrate its 10 years' anniversary, Arofanatics launched it's annually published book, entitled: "A decade of of fish-keeping".

Over the years, I did not purchase any editions of the book as there were no incentives to do so. Things are different for this year, I will be featured in a small page under the "Hobbyists' Profile" in the Betta section. So needless to say, I bought a copy for memorial purposes, haha.

Here are the pictures, kind of nice to see myself in a book. Even if it is just a page. Overall, the book is well worth the money, filled with highly professional pictures and enriching information on a vast range of fishes.

Next up, another sneak peak of my upcoming White Platinium HMPK spawn. They are growing well and should hit adulthood in a month plus. Colours are clean and finnages are looking to have high potential, can't wait!

Supporting Predatory Fish Keepers

Hey fish keepers,

Bettafanism will not have the current pool of betta lovers gathered here, if not for the forums used to channel you guys. So I think it is only fair that I give the forums that I support some promotion here.

For senior readers here, I had introduced certain forums throughout these posts. One of which isn't really maintained anymore, while the other is Arowana Fish Talk, a huge based and active forum.

Today, I would like to draw the attention to Predatory Fish Keepers.

Some of you out here probably aren't just sole betta lovers, but fish lovers generally. Personally, I had met many of you guys with the interest of keeping other aquatic fishes, such as predatory ones.

Ranging from stingrays to arowanas, they are amazing hunters and majestic to view. So for those of you readers out there interested in starting a predatory fish community tank or seasoned predatory fish pet keepers, feel free to venture into this site with amazing photographies. The owner of the forum is a great photographer!

In just a few weeks, I will be releasing my Black Dragon Spawn, as well as a 2nd Black Dragon Spawn which includes some Red Dragons. Hope they all turn out beautiful.

Coming in 2 months+, Super Black and White Platinium HMPKs. Mega spawn on the blacks, once again, haha. Do pardon my love for posting pictures of fries, I love it when they cluster together on the surface at this age.

More details on the Betta Judging Seminar, and X'treme Competition is here!

Dear friends,

With regards to the previous post, I will provide more details of the Betta Judging Course/Seminar. It will be hosted by my friend Alfur Tan, official post: http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473522

In summary, it will be held on the 9th of September, 9am-3pm. Venue is to be confirmed.

This seminar will be like a "Basic Theory" for the entire Betta Judging Course, which is of 2 phrases. After this seminar, a certificate of participation will be given as proof of a graduate from this "Basic Theory". From then on, my friend will try to organise the 2nd phrase of the course, whereby participation in this 1st phrase is strictly required to qualify. So the 2nd phrase is sort of like a "Final Written Exam".

Please do note that the 2nd phrase of the Betta Judging Course will be a totally seperate event from this particular seminar, so details will be unknown for now.

For those that are interested (including those that SMSed me, as the list I gather was just a rough gauge of attendence for Alfur to understand if it is worth organising.), please SMS Alfur Tan your Name, Nickname (optinal), and NRIC number.

Certified Betta Judging Course

Hello fellow hobbyists,

Having kept bettas for many years, I've been to several competitions as a viewer or competitor, but never as a judge. I didn't mind attending a Betta Judging Course to get myself certified, but the courses are always held overseas, thus, I gave them a miss.

Today, my friend gave me a ring and to my delight, he is organising a Betta Judging Course to be held locally(Singapore). Without much hesitation, I agreed to be on the attendence list.

However, in order for the event to be successfully implemented, he require a certain amount of attendees. Hence, this post is to spread his word around for anyone in the betta keeping hobby who wish to bring the hobby to another level.

Further details will be confirmed as time goes by, but the registration fee is estimated to be about SGD$50. Also, it is a one time course with an official certification for you, to be valid for a lifetime. With these said, anyone interested in attending the course, please do SMS me.

Happy National Day

Hello people,

Happy National Day to all Singaporeans! Took this holiday to do some water change and jarring. The Turquiose HM spawn is way too humongous, so I guess I will be selling them young, perhaps next week. Do note they are still very small in size but not to worry, price will be cheap too and many to choose from. Just jarred about 50. Notice some with already 170degrees spread.

Jarred a few of the Black Dragon HMPK spawn too, and I am happy to share the developement of one piece that I jarred 3 days back, looking alot like his father. Hope I will yield many more quality dragons from this spawn for the competition in Sept. Enjoy!

Mailing of Fry Food

Dear Patrons,

For those who haven't been reading the chatbox, I am glad to announce that postage services for Betta/Fry Food will be available (within Singapore only). With the exception of Baby Brime Shrimp Eggs as they need to be chilled, the travelling time in the envelope might spoil them.

In other words, pellets can be sent to you via postage if requested. (I do not sell Microworms anymore. And if you insist on mailing the BBS eggs, I will not be liable for any damage to the eggs.)

However, as there is extra work to be done, every unit of order will be $3, instead of the usual $2. This is to pay for the stamps and other costs involved.

The procedure for mailing is simple:

SMS me your orders, followed by your full address (inclusive of Postal Code). Upon confirmation of orders, please transfer the exact amount to POSB SAVINGS, 249-31594-0, and inform me via SMS. When this is done, I will send out the orders asap, but on a time of my convenience. I will send you a SMS when the mail is sent.

An important point to note will be that I will not be liable for any loss of your orders in the process of postage, as this is not registered mail. If you are uncomfortable with this condition, I highly encourage self collection at my place, Sengkang.

Hope this will be great news for patrons living in the west area of Singapore.

Stock and fry updates

Hi fishy keepers,

Just some updates on my fries, here's a shot of the Turquiose Blackhead OHM fries. Should be ready in 2months' time. Hope I yield some awesome finnage!

Next up, my Black Dragon HMPK spawn! Should be ready in 2months' time too. Almost all the fries are already side masked, very happy with the progress. Father is the 3rd placing winner of the last Xtreme Competition.

Last update, I've just released several pairs of bettas for spawning, 2 had been confirmed with eggs for now - A pair of whites, and a pair of blacks (2nd place winner of Kelson Comp). Hope more will be struck by cupid and I await raising them!

Post Kelson Betta Show 2011

The chapter for Kelson Betta Show 2011 had ended, and many who had been there will agree with me the standard of the participating bettas are rocket high! Especially the Halfmoon and Crowntail categories, jaw dropping indeed.

Quite unique looking trophies I must say. The compeition will cover all categories and is from 15-17 July. A good timing to have a look would be the afternoon of 16th July.

Another Fish Forum!

First off, a blissful father's day for all fathers out there!

A piece of great news is that the owner of ArowanaFishTalk forum (http://www.arowanafishtalk.com/forums/forum.php), has decided to start up a new betta sub-forum under one of the main forums - "Ornamental Fish".

Super Black, Pellets and BBS Guide.

Sharing some pictures of my 2month old spawn of my favourite Super Black OHMPK. Sadly, he's gone due to old age, so I couldn't do a F2 cross with him. Luckily, he spawned and his genes were at least passed on. Will do an inbreed F2, as well as a cross in the near future.

Next, I've introduced a new product in Bettafanism - Pellets for adult bettas. Suitable for bettas 1.5months and above. Hi there fish lovers,

Today marks the end of Aquarama 2011 held at Suntec. Been there yesterday to feast my eyes on several magnificant bettas. However, I am so sorry I did not bring my camera along, but some pictures can be found in the Arofanatics forum, here! Do browse around the pages as I think there are other pictures within the thread. Other than bettas, there are hundreds of other fishes, both marine and freshwater.

For those of you who had been there, did you catch the Imperial Red Arowana selling for $8888? That's a top notch fish I must say.

Exams approaching!

Dear friends,

My examinations will begin this friday! Managed to snap some pictures while taking a break though. This is a better picture of those Red/White Fancies that came out of the Red Gold spawn. Pretty artistic I would say, some may call this White Platinium with red wash too, nevertheless, just names. They will be for sale, limited pieces.

And to my surprise, some of the females from the spawn are pure Gold. Colouration is not very strong but I managed to find one without red wash. Also for sale, for those interested.

Lastly, after culling several pieces of my White Platinium spawn, I am very lucky to harvest a great looking female. Will cross her around to continue the blood line, here's a picture, enjoy!

New member to my "collection" that just started last year. Despite years of betta keeping, I finally decided to participate last year, haha.

End of Xtreme Competition

Hello passionate betta keepers,

Today marks the end of Xtreme's Best of Best Halfmoon Plakat Betta Competition. Its unfortunate that I am unable to turn up due to school but thanks to my friend, Louis, I managed to bench in two of my fishes with his help.

I didn't have plans to join the competition initially, but the growth of my Black Dragon HMPK convinced me to finally do so, coupled along with my Orange Grizzle HMPK. And I am very pleased to announce my Black Dragon achieved 3rd placing in the Dragon category! Nice try for my Orange Grizzle though, haha.

Yup, it is this fellow alright, the same piece from my previous post. Beautiful fellow. Congrats to the rest of the winners as well! And if you have missed the competition this time, do try to catch the biggest aquarium event - Aquarama, this late May. Enjoy betta keeping!

Up up updates.

Hello hobbyists around the world,

Ever since I started Bettafanism, there have been numerous requests from foreigners to export my stocks to various countries. Due to circumstances, I had to reject these offers. I thank you guys sincerely and it's an honour to have interests outside of Singapore. I will explain why I cannot fufil these requests.

Firstly, to export fishes overseas in Singapore, I will need to have a transhipper license which only a few of Singapore's fish farms have the rights to. A simple blogshop like mine will never have the rights.

Secondly, the transhippers in Singapore deal frequently with neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. Hence, to collaborate with them to ship to places such as USA and India is almost impossible as well.

Thirdly, being a small scaled, hobbyist-oriented blogshop, sales have been done in a view-and-agree on the spot system. Thus, cases of refunds or replacements are very rare. I cannot really afford to practice the standard protocol of "replacement when dead on arrival".

I hope my explainations will give you guys a better understanding of Bettafanism's situation in shipping bettas. Once again, I am very thankful for the kind support. Now, I proudly introduce some updates of my Red Gold HMPK spawn and Black Dragon HMPK. Very delighted that my Black Dragon HMPK gained a full masking!

And good news, my Super Black OHMPK spawned with a fabulous Super Black female borrowed from my friend. Will be raising them eagerly as I have high expectations for this spawn!

Some update of fries...

Hello Bettafanism Patrons,

With regards to my Gold x White Platinium spawn, here's some updates. Finnage is developing very well, the end result is the old school Red Gold colouration - Shiny whitish scales on the body with a bit of golden touch, yet not as thick of a dragon. And with a uniform redness on the finnage. Seen this colouration years back way before the dragons emerged, didn't know they can come from pure Gold x pure White Platinium.

Remember the Black Dragon HMPK I posted some time back? He is the father of a spawning project I did jointly with my friend. Unfortunately, its a very small spawn of 2 pairs. Thus, we kept one pair each. Here's my male, it's a pity that it is such a small spawn. Only 1month+ in age.

I guess when it comes to gracefulness the Halfmoons beat Halfmoon Plakats hands down with their beautiful and elegant fins. Considering breeding him but finding a suitable female is a problem and sadly, the demand should be low for such old school types of betta. Will ponder upon though.

Gold success

Hi my friends,

Approximately four weeks ago, I mentioned crossing my Gold HMPK with my White Platinium HMPK female, and I did. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was hoping that Gold will be a more dominant metallic colour, and achieve a high yield of golds, as getting whites with gold genetics will not be very favourable. And with luck, Gold is indeed more dominant genetically and I am getting 100% Gold HMPKs from this spawn. Just to share their progress with a picture.

Hope their goldness will intensify with good maskings and finnages. Look forward to their release at the end of May! Also, there might be more White Platinium HMPKs at the end of May as well, continuing my always going White Platinium line.

Good news for Halfmoon lovers, I managed to get my hands on a fraction of a fellow breeder's spawn. I must say the finnage is really good and I am having colourations like Copper, Melano Black and Black Copper HMs. One pair is already for sale, do check out the stocklist. I must say Halfmoons are truly so beautiful and graceful with their long finnage, enjoy the pictures! However, I only have a few males (some are healing their torn fins due to fights), and a good number of females at hand, so if the response is good I will consider getting more!

Blacky Dragons

Hello dragon and other betta lovers,

I am currently consolidating a list for you Black Dragon lovers (HMPK) out there to get your hands on some. Once my supplier informs me that he will be bringing in more Black Dragon HMPKs, I will have to inform in how many pieces of males and females to get for me. However, the exact date is unknown, and unguaranteed.

The ordering will be via SMS to me, acknowledging me about the quantity and gender. Once stocks arrive, it will be a first come first serve basis for selection.

Black Dragon HMPKs will be at $60 each, sorry for the steep pricing as thats the best I can set. The cost is very high as the market demand is sky-rocketing and the main suppliers do know about that. Quality will be unknown, but so far, I am satisfied. They are always fully side masked with neat, white scalings. Occassionally, there will be full maskings. Finnage is prominently good too with bettas from this supplier.(Thailand)

I will attach pictures at the bottom of the bloodline these Black Dragons will come from, do SMS me if interested. Details all explained in post.

Once ordered, there will be no refunds and buyers are obligated to collect their bettas by arranging a viewing at my place, Sengkang.

Too eager...

Hi hobbyists around the world,

I might have mentioned before to most of you that due to my prelims and examination in March and May, I had stopped spawning till perhaps, June. However, there were some difficulties on my friends' side regarding the breeding of my White Platiniums. With overwhelming eagerness for my White Platinium line to continue, I spawned a pair of them that I had been keeping, hope they turn out well!

Since the spawning had begun, I figured I might as well launch another project as fry food would take the same effort to produce. Hence, I've managed to cross my Gold HMPK to my White Platinium HMPK female. Not exactly a genetic genius so we shall see what we get in 3months' time. Feel free to enlighten me in the chatbox if you know, or had any experience with this cross.

Another shot of the Gold HMPK, beautiful fish IMO.

However, I doubt I will have the time to jar most of the fries, so we will see how this goes. Will probably cull intensively and jar only the best few.

And here's a great piece of news: I am delighted to inform you guys that my Grand Champion (White Platinium HMPK from Yunfeng Comp Chapter 3) had spawned as well! Will update and hopefully the fries will be looking good.

Adding on, I apologise for the lack of stocks during this period of the year, as always haha. Due to school commitments. Feel free to ask me any questions unanswered by my guides in my chatbox!

Good day my friends,

Yet another post to share some of my collections. Really hope you guys enjoy and feel free to comment in the Chatbox.

Firstly, I nickname this the Ice-cream betta, because his fancy colouration is so "milky", kind of like a flavour mix in ice-creams. Hope you guys get what I am getting at, haha. Colour is better seen "live" though, hard to capture with my poor photography skills.

Next, I am very delighted to find this colour once again, was decently available some years back, but when dragons came, they somehow, became "endangered".

Next, some of you might have seen him for sale for a moment, some time back. I removed him from the stocklist because he attracted me quite a lot as a giant. This piece is about 3inches long, relatively big, but with amazing deportment which is rare in giants. Big spread and flares at my finger, so decided to keep him, haha.

Tricky on the colouration term, lets just call him Metallic Yellow Fancy Giant, enjoy!

Lastly, saving the best for the last, the highly sort after Black Dragon HMPK! Managed to grab a nice one for myself as it is very difficult to find a good black dragon, at least in my opinion. Definitely a candidate for my breeding projects after my exams.

My friend's red army

Hello my friends,

As a betta breeder, one of the most challenging colouration of bettas to breed would be reds in my opinion.

If you work towards colour intensity, you tend to have black scaling problem. And when you attempt to get rid of those, you tend to have pinkish irids on their bodies. Thus, to achieve a red betta of close perfection, is a tedious job of minimising both faults. Not to mention the ongoing need to maintain good finnages in the spawns. It is almost impossible by far to eliminate both issues.

After mentioning all these, I'm happy to share with you guys some bettas bred by my friend, Taufiq. Great job and courage to work on the reds!

And I really love this female!

Also, equally challenging is the Yellows, which faces similiar difficulties in getting the optimal colouration. Which Taufiq worked on too. Impressive finanges.

Some new additions

Hi to all betta fans,

Other than being a betta seller, I am myself a betta fanatic as well and hence, do keep a small collection of bettas for my personal viewing.

With this post, I would like to share with you guys 2 of my latest additions, please enjoy!

Firstly, will be this young, little, fiesty Red CT. Very good deportment at such a young age, I really enjoy watching him flare and dart around aggressively. Let's hope he will grow up well. As usual, my photography skills are kind of poor, the fish looks redder "live". Perhaps the ketapang water plays a part to make him paler looking.

As we chatted around, some of you might know that I do not have very much interest in giants. (For those who don't know, giants are much bigger sized bettas developed a couple of years back.) However, this piece captured my attention with his stunning finnage. I do know there are many giants with such impressive finnage around too but the prices are usually very steep. This piece, however, is relatively cheap to me for such a quality.

Lesser of words, and here comes the picture. He is about 2.75 inches in length.

I hope you guys enjoyed this sharing session, which ringed an idea in my head. Perhaps you guys out there reading could share with me some of your collections too! The Dragon

Just posting a random information sharing post. The "Dragon" colouration had been a hit since their introduction a few years back. Many of you might understand the colouration criteria well, so the aim of this post is to help those who are new to betta keeping with regards to venturing into the vast range of betta colourations. My information might not be 100% correct, these are what I learnt along the way, so feel free to correct me.

White Platinium

White Dragon

The major point to note in a Dragon is its thick, white scalings. Unlike White Platiniums, the scales are thick and chalky white, which will look like armour plates tiled side to side. Pictures are attached above for your reference.

Next, I will touch on identifying the colour type. As mentioned earlier, it is critical for Dragons to have chalky, white body scaling. Hence, the finnage colour determines the colouration. Example, a red finned fish with white scalings will be a Red Dragon.

I hope this small little information post will help those still confused with the Dragon colouration. One fact to point out is that Red Dragons are the first of the dragon kinds. Lastly, some pictures of different dragons will be posted below, do enjoy!

Updates of Whites, Spawn II

Hi there betta enthusiasts,

I had been selling my White Platinium HMPKs for a while, and currently, Spawn II is slowly being sold out. Most of the males in the $30-50 range are sold. Currently, the males available are at the $10-20 range. They are still of good quality though, straight edged 180degrees tail spread. Furthermore, I will be jarring my Spawn III soon.

The main purpose for this post is to share that I am yielding fantastic females! Because I tend to jar males prior to females, I am just now starting to jar the remaining bulk of females in the community tank (About 30). A few days of jarring had passed, and I am very pleased with the finnage they are developing.

I quickly snapped some shots to share with you guys, please note that these females are indeed for sale. In the $30 - $40 range, very good price in my opinion for such finnage on females. Quite a number to choose from.

Hope these beautiful ladies brightened up your day, as much as they did for me.

Sorry for the lack of posts as I am very busy with school.

In this post, I will share with you guys the picture of my Grand Champion at the last YunFeng Chapter 4 Competition. As requested by some of you for pictures, I am so sorry I am very late in fufilling the request.

Personally I feel he does have some faults, very lucky to get the GC win. However, his deportment and big finnage probably won the judges' hearts as well as mine in selecting my whites for the competition.

Very happy moment!

Hi Bettafanism readers,

Sorry that I am rather busy lately and did not blog about the ongoing YunFeng Competition at YunFeng Betta Farm (Pasir Ris). Sent in 3 fishes and I am extremely happy that they all brought back glory! The competition is open to public till tomorrow, 5pm.

Remember these bettas that I had posted some time back? The Red HMPK and Blue Masked HMPK won 3rd and 2nd placings respectively in their own colour category.

Adding on, I sent a young White Platinium HMPK from Spawn 1 of my White Platinium HMPK spawns (I have 3 spawns at the moment.), and I am very pleased to say that the little, fiesty fellow won the Grand Champion! I have no pictures of him yet, but will update soon.

Cheap Dragon/Copper fancy sales

Hello betta addicts,

This is an update of 2 of the 3 spawns of white platiniums I have with me. The 3rd spawn is still very small and just started on tubifex worms.

Spawn 1 is about 2.5months old, enjoy the updates, some are for sale now.

Spawn 2 is about 1month+, hitting 2 months and I jarred some of the bigger ones of the spawn to look at their finnage developement. Very happy with their potential I must say! Ignore the unglam moment captured in the 2nd picture though, haha.

King Crowntail

Hi my friends,

I'm excited to share with you guys one of the rarest and most beautiful type of betta - The King Crowntail!

This Black Orchid KCT is not mine, but my friend's, namely Ernest. (Pictures by KelsonBetta) Despite keeping bettas for so long, I had never kept a KCT due to their sheer rarity and hence, the price is very steep.

Nevertheless, I felt Ernest made a great buy and this is his picture in full glory. Once again, enjoy!

For the benefit of those who are new, Crowntail (CT) is a type of betta with "spiky" tail finnages. And a King Crowntail (KCT) have "spikes" that intersect with one another, for that to happen in CTs is extremely rare.

Hello Bettafans,

Been busy these days and pictures of some of the stocks are finally out! Do check out the stocklist, Green/Blue HMPK spawn still selling at $5/each. Selling out fast.

As many of you know, I have 3 White Platinium HMPK spawns running and I snapped some pictures of the oldest spawn. This spawn is very small and some of them have washes, it's quite a disappointment in that sense. However, their finnages are superb, very happy with their finnage developements.

Because this is a very small spawn, I will not be releasing them at the moment. Might be choosing some of them to join the upcoming YunFeng Competition. Perhaps then, I will then release them for sale.

Sorry I do not have pictures for the DMS Breeders' Competition, just an update my entry won 2nd placing in the Dark Metallic category. Although the competition is rather small scaled, I hope such a kind of competition will grow in popularity as it is really interesting to see various local breeders competing with their very own spawns.

Anyway, recently I consulted the services of a professional photographer to snap some shots of my fishes. The pictures are really awesome and I would love to share some with you guys, enjoy!

Some of you had been asking me about the ongoing Betta Breeders' Competition that I am participating. With permission from one of the organisers, Andrew, here's the info. Do drop by for beautiful, locally (and Malaysia) bred bettas!

Zhenghua Segar Residents' Corner (RC) located at Block 475, Segar Road.

The nearest MRT station is Choa Chu Kang and the nearest LRT station is Segar, which is a 5min walk away.

Viewing timings:
Saturday 1:30pm onwards.
Sunday 2pm (This is the prize presentation and its probably still open to public till bench out at 5pm)

As I mentioned in my previous post, I sent an entry in the Dark Metallic Category, my entry number is C5-01.

Hello to all betta lovers,

I am releasing the 2nd spawn of Gold Dragon HMPKs, named Gold Dragon HMPK Spawn II, please check out the stock page for more details.

Also still for sale is my Green/Blue HMPK spawn. I had selected 5 fishes from the spawn to participate in the upcoming DMS Breeder Competition. Because I had sold a couple of fishes from this spawn already, these 5 bettas selected are not the top of this spawn. Nevertheless, wish me good luck, haha.

Greenies and Blues

Hello to fighting fish keepers,

Took some pictures of the Green/Blue HMPK spawn. Overall, the quality is good, sold many nice pieces already.

I shall share the parentage of this spawn, father is a Green (Turquiose) HMPK, 1st placed in YunFeng Betta Competition some time back.

Father - Really loved his stout, muscular, big-sized body. This fish and his siblings are easily 50% bigger than normal plakats' standard size. They are non-giant though.

The flaw of this fish is the lack of masking, hence, I crossed him with a decent full masked Royal Blue HMPK Female.

And thus, I've got this spawn. Pretty good masking with stout looking body. Rather good finnages too, enjoy the new pictures!

Just jarred more of "Metallic Mustard Gas" or "Metallic Pastel Gold" as some of them have really great potential. Will update their jarred updates when I am free.

As many of you had been scooping from the Gold Dragon tank, the "Metallic Mustard Gas" or "Metallic Pastel Gold" had been rather untouched. Only a few of you picked up some, not sure why though they are very beautiful too.

"Metallic Mustard Gas" or "MMG"

Hi betta crazies,

My first Gold Dragon HMPK spawn yielded a portion of dragon-like bettas but with greenish shine on their scales. Because their body is green and fins are yellow, I named them "Metallic Mustard Gas" or "MMG", just a name though for easy identification, so no flaming please.

They are for sale too as package pricings. 3 for $10, applying to White Platinium HMPKs, Mustard Gas HMPKs, Gold Dragon HMPKs and of course, the Metallic Mustard Gas HMPKs.

Lastly, sorry for the lack of new variety stocks as I am focusing on my spawn's sales; I have tonnes of them to have any space for other stocks.

I've just done some culling for the Gold Dragons and MMGs, so standard is there for the maskings in this spawn, come with your nets fast.

Do check out some "Best of Spawn" sales like the current Pineapple HMPK. And for those who are interested, I am selling my culls for a token sum. Rather than flush them away, I hope to raise some funds at least for tubifex worms, haha.

The remaining ones are randomly and jarred in mass, hence, potential ones might still lurk in the lot. Afterall, spawns like the White Platiniums have minimium of 8 rays.

White Platinium HMPK spawn.

Jarred couple more of them. Some already showing 180degrees spread, very good ray branchings. A bit of spoonhead. Some got green shine (some called Opaque Green or Pastel Green). Many good ones are sold but still a sizeable amount to choose from.

Mustard Gas HMPK spawn. (Some pineapples too)

Jarred a few so far. Colouration very well balanced for Mustard Gas, yellow bandings all the way to dorsal and good rims at fin's edge. Rays still growing, some that I jarred hit 180degrees caudal, and nice dorsals.

Hello guys, due to sheer big size of this spawn, and I have a second spawn of Gold Dragon too, I will be selling the 1st spawn of gold dragon juveniles. Note that due to congestion, at 2months old, they are still small, gender is tough to differentiate, now I house them in 3 tanks and growth will speed up from there. Masking potential can already be seen, as in picture, finnage looks big on the caudal too.

I am still in the progress of spawning other pairs like my Black Dragon Pair, which happened to fail as I expected the male is probably too old. A week to launch of project...

Sorry for the stagnantation of the blog for the past days, my examinations will end at 20th May, so I will spawn my conditioned pairs soon!

Hello betta fans,

This post is to create awareness of some new features in my blog.

This includes a search function on the sidebar for easier access to old posts and a navigation bar under my profile, also on the right side, for easier surfing in Bettafanism. Will be updating more pages like "Fry Food Sales" for everyone's (including mine, lol) convenience. For now, I've uploaded a map, as well as some directions to my place.

Lastly, I realise some of you may get the wrong idea that, for example, the previous post of 13 April, is not up to date and hence, the stocks are already not for sale. That is not true as I edit the posts/stocklist/salelist regularly. So as long as I do not mark the fish as "SOLD", they are still for sale.

Dear patrons,

Thanks for the support given to Bettafanism, I am currently left with a single HMPK for sale (details in previous post, last fish, $15).

Arrival of next group of stocks should be around mid April. No garantees though as I will be having my exams during the month of May, so do expect a stagnant period of the blog, apologies in advance. :)

Meanwhile, I am stocking my fish room up with breeding stocks for my projects starting late May, so hope you guys are as excited as I am!

Hi there people of the Betta World,

This post is to share an upcoming betta event in the Singapore scene. Some of you might not know the news and I am here to share it with you guys! :)

Here's the information poster. Click to enlarge.

I usually view Betta Competitions on the 2nd day, about 3pm onwards, which is usually after the judging. On the 3rd day's afternoon will do too, which most people usually visit at. Do not come on the 1st day as participants will be busy benching in their bettas and the competition will not be open for viewing.

Most of the information is in the Poster already. Competition is held on the 2nd-4th April. Be sure to be indulged in the beauty of various bettas in different categories!

Do take note I am not involved with Yun Feng at all, just sharing. For any information please contact them, not me. :)

Long Fins...

Hello guys,

About 2-3 young, long-finned Halfmoons might be coming up. Colour should be Sala (Blue/Red, Green/Red). And some Halfmoon Plakats.

Due to some experiences, I decided to improve Bettafanism further by purchasing some tiny containers in bulk. These containers shall solve the problems of those that came and had a tank constraint (Not enough tanks at home). I will be selling these plastic tanks cheaply at 50cents each so you may house the bettas until you get a proper tank for it. The size is reasonable, I will post pictures soon. :)

Hello all, especially giant lovers,

Many of you messaged me about Giant Bettas, and here you go:

My first hand experience on Giants! Just got this Mustard Gas Giant Plakat as my first giant stock. Do support! As usual, due to my poor photography skills, colours are more vibrant in ''live''.

He is about 2.5inches. Very big caudal/tail and dorsal fin with very aggressive and active nature. That is what I like about him as I usually find giants kind of lethagic.

Some new fishes...

Hello fellow betta hobbyists,

As you can see in the stocklist, many of my bettas are already sold. Thank you for the support. :)

Went hunting around abit and got my hands on a Red Dragon HMPK, Red Dragon BF HMPK and another solid piece of Sala BF HMPK (That makes it 2 Sala BF HMPKs in my stock, this one I got has fantastic form!)

All of them are $25 each.

Sadly, the Red Dragon seem to be suffering from a bit of indigestion and is undergoing treatment now.

Really busy these days and hence, haven't got the time to snap pictures of them, since the Red Dragon HMPK is not flaring properly anyway.

Some pictures of those that made it to 180 degrees spread. Many great pieces of this spawn were already sold though.

The following picture is my Yellow HMPK Male that I had intended to send for the YunFeng Competition. But I decided not to later on because he is rather small in size. Sorry this is not for sale for now though, intend to groom him further. Just sharing the genetic pool of this spawn. :)

Hi fellow aquarists,

Just got my hands on 2 very beautiful Red HMPKs from a very good local breeder. Taken some pictures to share.

Challenging colour as it is almost impossible to achieve pure intensed red with no irids and black scales. Might try out spawning reds during May. :)

Willing to sell off if there is interested buyers. As usual, prices negotiable. :)
